Grant Park’s Historic Cyclorama Latest Victim of Atlanta’s Urge to Move Shit Around

GRANT PARK–The Cyclorama is by far the most famous of Atlanta’s big round war paintings, and, like a late 30s doctor family whose student loans are finally paid off, it will soon move from Grant Park to Buckhead.

Luke N. Aarond, Cyclorama historian, defended the move. “History’s not about leaving things in one place for a long time. That’s stupid.”

The current Cyclorama building will become a zoo event space where the zoo plans to offer wealthy patrons the opportunity to have animals as guests. Lesser animals, like capucin monkeys, will only cost a few hundred dollars, whereas a black tie affair featuring an appearance by pandas Lun Lun and Yang Yang will net the zoo tens of thousands.

“It’s going to be amazing, partying with Lun Lun,” said Pam Dalover, zoo event coordinator. “And who knows? Maybe the pandas will get a little tipsy and we’ll end up with some more cubs!”
